WEST BUILDING WALLS1 (01-08-09) Construction crews lift one of the corner wall panels in the early morning fog as crews began top raise the walls of what will become the new West Building at Tracy High. Demolished in October of 2006, the replacement 2-story, 70,000 classroom building has slowly been taking shape. Wednesday the wall panels were lifted into place using a heavy lift crane. 25 concrete panels will make up the walls of the building, each approximately 30’ tall, 31, feet wide and weighing an average of 70,000 lbs each. Weather permitting it will take 2 days to place all 25 panels in the tilt up building. It took crews almost 2 months to prepare the molds and pour the panels which were built atop the concrete slab. Several classes at Tracy High were moved temporarily for safety as there was a 100’ foot safety zone around the lifting crane. Student were rerouted as they walked to the next classes to stay out of the cranes drop zone in case of an emergency. TRACY INN WORK1 (09-16-08) A worker repaints the lettering on the neon sign high above the Tracy Inn as crews work on restoring the roof and tower of the historic Tracy Inn on 11th Street and Central Avenue. The roof had been in need of repair so crews from California Roofing have been replacing the clay tiles. The historic status of the building means crews must keep the original look of the building as they revamp it. A separate company has been working on the tower and sign that sits atop the inn. Crews are expected to keep one lane of 11th Street closed next to the inn as they continue to replaces the felt and roof tiles. POET CHRISTIAN HALLOWEEN1 (10-31-08) Poet Christian kindergarten teacher Kris Thomas as Superman joins his students dancing to the “Ghostbusters” song as the school winds up its Hallo-Walk-A-Thon and Halloween Dance Friday morning. For the second year the school had the 700 students in K-8th grade walk laps around a course for fitness and to raise money for the school. The students walked the laps at their own pace and could take breaks when needed along with healthy snacks around the course. The walk-a-thon ended with the entire school joining to dance to the songs “Monster Mash”, “Ghostbusters” and the “Adams Family” theme.
