While the younger students learned mostly about insects, they were also introduced to arachnids, reptiles, and even a bunny during their visit. The trip was a collaborative effort between Elisa Jaros, a teacher at Unity Point, and Suzanne Asaturian, a science teacher at Carbondale Community High School. According to Jaros, the economy has made it difficult for parents to provide money for field trips. This was an opportunity to take the children on an educational field trip without spending money and help them learn valuable social skills.
