"My friends and I, we call kids the 'remote-control' society," said 58-year-old Jed Knutilla, fishing on White Bear Lake on Thursday January 4, 2007. Knutilla, who was taught to hunt and fish by his dad while growing up in Perham, laments what he sees as the lack of enthusiasm for outdoor sports on behalf of younger people. Monday, January 1, 2007, Over 600 runners got a brisk start to the new year by taking a plunge in to Lake Minnetonka in Excelsior, MN. This was part of Active Life and Running Club's 17th annual "On it and In It Minnetonka Ice Plunge." A area of open water had been cut in the lake, 30 feet long and 8 feet wide. Participants had to totally submerge themselves for it to count as a jump. So a short run, participants assembled for the jump into the lake bay rank, with the sharks (participants with 10 + jumps) going first and finishing with first time participants (guppies).

Twin sisters Colleen Jefferson and Claudia Beckman rescue pets from animal shelters in the south, and bring them north to White Bear Lake, Mn. where they try to place the pets in adoptive homes, and we photographed them on May 9, 2006. Colleen Jefferson held " Simon", a beagle/dachsund mix who was rescued from an pound down south. "Simon" cringes at loud noises like thunder, or even the wind, after having lived through hurricane Katrina. Jefferson comforted the dog as she had him listen to the sound of the television. Sunday, September 9, 2006, bikes and bikers of all different shapes, sizes and ages rode down west bound Summit Ave to Mississippi River Blvd. as they began their ride in the Saint Paul Classic Bike Tour. Approximately 7,000 bike riders particpated in the Saint Paul Classic Bike Tour, which offered riders a 15 or 30 mile loop through and around St. Paul . Over 30 miles of the two routes were closed to motorized traffic. .

Michelle Waller launched a little clothing line last year called Royal Plush with her husband/partner, Steve, photographed Monday, May 22, 2006, with their kids, Alex, 11, and Drew, 6, and the family's English bulldog, Mojo. The Twin Cities Pet Expo was held at the Minneapolis Convention Center on Feb. 18, 2006. The expo showcased products and services for animals. Rachel Espinosa, age 4, of Edina, loved petting Daisy, a 7 year old English Bulldog. Daisy is the half-sister of R.J., the bulldog from Belle Plaine who is the mascot of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
