JUNE 5, 1973 - Director of Communications, Herb Klein, takes over the President's desk at the White House. Herbert G. Klein, 91, a San Diego newspaperman who joined Richard M. Nixons electoral campaigns in 1948, ultimately becoming the White House as communications director during much of the Watergate era, died July 2 after a heart attack at his home in LaJolla, Calif.
